Walk-In Cooler & Commercial Refrigeration Repair in Tampa
Walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, prep tables and display cases in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater. A box losing temperature goes to the front of the queue.
The calls we get from Tampa kitchens
A walk-in that holds 38°F at 10 AM and drifts to 46°F by the dinner rush. That pattern almost always points outside the box: a condenser coil caked with dust and kitchen grease, a condenser fan that quit, or a unit on a south-facing roof that was never sized for a Tampa August. Inside the box, the usual suspects are an iced-over evaporator from a failed defrost heater or timer, and door gaskets that stopped sealing.
Freezers fail a little differently. A defrost drain line that freezes solid will dump water on the floor and build ice on the fan blades until the fan stalls. Strip curtains torn down by a busy line let humid air in every few minutes, and the coil frosts over by the end of the week. Our article on walk-in freezer frost buildup walks through it.
What the tech checks first
- Box and product temperature: with a probe thermometer, not the door display.
- Condensing unit: coil condition, fan motor, contactor, head pressure. Most summer calls end here.
- Evaporator: ice pattern, fan motors, defrost heaters and termination switch.
- Door and envelope: gaskets, heater wire, closers, strip curtains, and whether the floor panel is sweating.
- Refrigerant: only after airflow and defrost are ruled out. EPA 608-certified techs handle any leak search and recharge.
